Common dental emergencies
- Dental trauma– Sometimes while playing, a ball may hit your face, and the tooth completely gets displaced from the socket. If the tooth is kept properly, then it can be implanted back in the socket only if you reach your dentist on time.
- Sharp pain due to tooth abscess– Tooth abscess can cause sharp, throbbing pain and comes with other symptoms like high fever, persistent toothache, and swelling. This condition is a dental emergency and you should immediately visit the dental office.
- Postoperative swelling–Usually after the dental procedures, some form of swelling is a common occurrence, but it is recommended to visit the doctor if it doesn’t feel normal and extremely painful.
- Loose or fractured removable appliance–At such circumstances, the appliance needs to be removed or it might get stuck in the throat eventually leading to a life-threatening situation.
- Pericoronitis–It is an inflammation of soft tissue (gums) around a partially erupted tooth which occurs due to bacterial infection and is most commonly seen during the eruption of wisdom teeth.
- Cellulitis – It is a life-threatening bacterial infection beneath the soft tissue of the face, caused due to untreated dental abscess which was not treated.
